Barotrauma: The Wallaby Malpractice Notice - A New Crew Guide to Avoid Drowning in Style

Welcome to the Wallaby which is a Tier 2 Attack class submarine designed for crews who enjoy the thrill of plumbing and the threat of deep sea drowning and litigation. This submarine is technically defined as a high pressure workspace where your survival is entirely dependent on your ability to fix leaks faster than the abyss can create them. By stepping foot on this deck you waive all rights to sue the Coalition for damages caused by burst pipes or sudden Mudraptor home invasions because your presence here constitutes an assumption of risk. Here are 15 tips for Wallaby Operations.

1. Valve Mastery:

You must prioritize learning the exact location of every valve on the ship before the first mission begins. If a pipe bursts and you try to weld it without closing the valve first the water pressure will physically shove you across the room. This is not just a gameplay mechanic but a clear warning that the ship's infrastructure actively hates you.

2. Airlock Patience:

The door airlock system is designed to prevent catastrophic flooding during crew transitions into the abyss. It can be quite slow and frustrating when you are being chased by a hungry Bone Thresher. You should use this extra time to reflect on your life choices or perhaps blame the Captain for the delay.

3. External Maintenance Requirements:

The Wallaby features a double layered hull that provides excellent protection against external impacts from monsters. However the gap between the walls is too wide for standard welding tools to reach the exterior from inside the sub. You will need to exit the vessel frequently to perform repairs which significantly increases your risk of being eaten by a Latcher.

4. Coordination Clause:

As a Tier 2 Attack vessel this sub is built to deal significant damage to the native Europan wildlife. You should coordinate your fire with the Captain to ensure that targets stay within your weapon arcs at all times. Failure to maintain a steady line of fire is a breach of your unspoken contract with the gunnery team and may lead to a total party wipe.

5. Wrench Priority:

The wrench is arguably the most important tool on the Wallaby due to the experimental internal pipe system. You should keep one in your hotbar at all times so you can respond to internal leaks immediately. A mechanic without a wrench on this ship is legally considered a liability and a physical waste of oxygen.

6. Bot Negligence:

Bots often struggle with the complex layout of the Wallaby especially when it comes to navigating the vertical shafts. You should monitor their status frequently to ensure they have not gotten stuck in a flooded room or a dark corner. If a bot drowns because it forgot how to climb a ladder that is technically not your legal responsibility.

7. Hardpoint Upgrades:

The large hardpoint on the Wallaby is its primary selling point for aggressive crews who want to hunt the biggest monsters. You should upgrade this weapon as soon as possible to maximize your offensive output during campaign missions. A poorly maintained railgun is a direct violation of the "Kill Everything" clause in your mission brief.

8. Double Flooding Hazard:

Internal pipe leaks can flood rooms even if the outer hull is completely intact. This creates a unique challenge where you must manage two different types of flooding simultaneously. If you find yourself swimming in the cafeteria please ensure you have filled out the appropriate flood damage report before you drown.

9. Manufacturing Utility:

The inclusion of a full fabrication suite makes this sub a mobile base of operations for long journeys. You should always be deconstructing scrap to keep your resource levels high for emergency repairs. Running out of welding fuel during a crisis is a tier one gaming fail and a breach of basic safety protocols.

10. Captain Accountability:

The Captain must master the art of positioning because the Wallaby is less maneuverable than smaller scout ships. You need to lead your shots and account for the sub's momentum during intense combat. Crashing into a rock while trying to dodge a Moloch will result in an immediate performance review and a loss of prestige.

11. Plumbing Protection:

Security officers should focus on guarding the internal pipe clusters during boarder attacks. If a creature breaks a pipe inside the sub the resulting chaos makes it much harder to aim your shotgun effectively. You are authorized to use lethal force against any intruder that messes with the plumbing.

12. Gear Organization:

Always keep the diving suits organized and fully charged in their respective lockers. A messy locker room leads to panicked deaths when the sub starts taking on water at a rapid rate. In the eyes of the law a missing diving suit is considered an act of gross negligence by the ship's quartermaster.

13. Reactor Oversight:

The reactor on the Wallaby is powerful but it requires steady attention to avoid overheating during heavy combat. You should invest in automatic control circuits to take some of the pressure off the engineer. An exploding reactor is generally considered a bad career move for everyone involved in the mission.

14. Stealth Protocols:

While the Wallaby is an attack sub it can still benefit from turning off the active sonar in dangerous areas. Creeping past a sleeper Latcher is often more profitable than trying to fight it head on with limited supplies. If you wake the beast up you are legally obligated to stay on the guns until it is neutralized.

15. Rate of Fire:

Focus on improving the fire rate and reload speed of your coilguns to keep smaller swarms of crawlers at bay. The Wallaby excels at sustained fire but it struggles if it gets overwhelmed by multiple targets from different angles. Upgrading your guns is a sound financial investment in your continued existence.

Wallaby Trivia

Docket Entry: The Wallaby was officially added to the game in the Winter Update 2025 on December 8 2025.

Dual-Action Liability Clause: It is the first vanilla submarine to feature the internal pipe mechanic which requires both a wrench and a valve shutdown to repair.

The Orca 2 Estate: Many players consider the Wallaby to be the spiritual successor to the Orca 2 though it is significantly more aggressive and difficult to maintain.

Statutory Fauna: The ship's name follows the traditional Australian fauna naming convention used for several other vessels in the Barotrauma universe.
